WHY OPPOSE THE METROPARKS LEVY?
Metroparks Members are unelected.
The Metroparks Board is an unelected body of individuals with the power to spend and propose taxes as they wish. The 4 people who sit on this board are appointed by the Probate Judge of Trumbull County, currently Judge James A. Fredericka. These members are not voted or approved by the people of Trumbull County, but rather are political appointments. The powers these unelected bureaucrats hold, and often abuse, hurts every Trumbull Taxpayer.
Tax Levy in 6 Minutes.
On June 9th at 4:15 PM. the Trumbull Metroparks Board Convened. At 4:21 PM they adjourned. What did they do in those 6 minutes? The 4 Board Members voted to approve Resolution 2022-2, which levies a tax in excess of $10 Million. Did you know about this meeting> Most Trumbull County taxpayers didn't. No public comment. No taxpayer input. For them it took just 6 minutes to decide we should pay, but for us, it takes hours to earn the money to pay for this levy.
Abuse of taxpayer funds.
We, the taxpayers of Trumbull County, expect our money to be handled and used wisely. When we pay our property tax, we are putting faith in county government that they will use it for our benefit. The Trumbull Metroparks Board does the opposite. Wasteful spending is a common trentd for them. Instead of working to maintain the properties we currently own, they expand beyond what we can afford, and then pass along the bill to us.
This log cabin, located in Braceville Township, was given to Trumbull Metroparks. This photo, taken in September of 2022, showcases just how well our tax money is being spent. They recieved a $43,000 grant for the restoration of this Cabin. That was in 2017. 5 years later, it's still in deplorable shape.
This Bench overlooking nothing, located in Swift Park, is yet another showcase of poor planning and a clear waste of taxpayer funds. To the left of the bench is a stage, used for nothing, which is actively rotting away. Does this kind of poor planning deserve more money?
